Hi, I’m Chander (Billy). I will be your tour leader.

I was born and educated in the Himalayas. I’m the author of two historical adventure books for young adults as well as a keen student of Indian history.

My fascination for this magical land of my ancestors has drawn back time and again to admire and study its unique culture as well as its numerous splendid monuments both natural and man-made. These excursions have allowed me to gain many insights into the various facets of the people and their lifestyle, history, religion, food, music, handicrafts as well as the flora and fauna of this exquisite patch of India called Rajasthan.

Having lived in the west (New Zealand, United Kingdom, Germany, Holland, Czech Republic) over the past twenty years has given me a thorough understanding of Eastern and Western cultures. This understanding enables me to be sensitive to the needs of Western tourists often travelling for the first time through a foreign culture which can seem a little bewildering at first.

Responsible traveling

Would you be happy to know, that when you visit India,
you also help to solve local problems?

Visit and make a difference!

You are about to travel to a country, where poverty is an everyday experience. I’m sure you heard about it a lot. Many find it confusing to travel to India. Huge monuments, the beauty of the landscapes, gold, art, colors, culture – right next to the reality of millions of people that live in deep poverty.

We don’t want to show you the “photoshopped” India, but the real India.

We believe in responsible traveling.

We believe, that when we travel so far, to such a different culture, we shouldn’t only enjoy the colorful experiences that it provides. We should also participate in making it a better place. We chose to help the next generation to live a better life. Street kids have a difficult life, and we believe that everyone deserves a chance for a better life.

This is why 100% of all net profits at Smile India Tours will be donated to Salaam Baalak Trust, a charity that does an amazing work helping street kids. They give kids education, company, experiences… But first of all: HOPE for a better future.

And the twist is that you will be there during the donation! You will get the chance to experience the joy of helping, the happyness of spreading the smile. The clients on the Group Tour will be present when the donations are made at the offices of the Charity.

Some of the street children will guide us on a street walk, where they will tell us about their experiences of life on the streets of Delhi. Some say it is an eye-opening, life-changing experience (and also safe!).

Their stories are sometimes confronting, but also full of hope for their future, thanks to the good work being done by the Salaam Baalak Trust.
